My 3rd stage was a 11 hours car driving across France back home. While the group paddled into beautiful Bordeaux and as I hear one and some more delicious wine tasting and excellent food was pending.
I can now participate only virtually. They post photos and little stories in the WhatsApp group from which I could take the following photos.
This is what happy riders look like:
and Roland, since he was still with them
Not to forget both wonderful Cerie and James in the support vans. Who prepared super fresh food for us. Nothing from the plastic bag, everything fresh from the supermarket bought on the road. A significant difference from the tour 2 years ago.
Curbs
Back to the curbs once again. One of the drivers has a helmet camera with which he filmed the entrance to Bordeaux. On the small video you can see how dangerous the curbs are. In this case it was harmless, in my case disastrous.
I had also overlooked a curb, which was about 3 cm high and not visible to me, I thought now the side track, the bike path, goes into the road. Unfortunately, I drove the curb with too acute angle and too fast, about 20km / h, what caused this fall. In the process, I hit the road hard at 3 points 1) knee – minor abrasions, nothing to speak of, 2) shoulder – broken collarbone and 3) head. I didn’t realize until later that I hit my head pretty hard on the road. When I told this Chris took my helmet and pointed to the fracture. He broke into 3 parts, which he obviously should. But it’s also clear that without a helmet, things would have turned out worse.
Addendum – The last recorded speed of my Garmin was 25.2 km/h, so that must have been the Geschindigkeit at the fall.
The Blog
Now the question arises, should I continue this blog, even if I am no longer there? Actually makes no sense, you want to “experience” the adventure and I just do not experience it anymore, but get the stories also only from third hand.
However, I have prepared the whole route with the blog pages so elaborately that it would be a pity not to use that. Besides, I get from my group just the events and photos of the days on the road.
At the moment I think the interesting stages in the Pyrenees and the Alps will be worth to report what is told to me so and weiergeleitet.
What do you think?
Tomorrows Outlook
First we drive through the Médoc wine region, then back toward the coast through another nature reserve, the forested Landes de Gascogne. At Parentis-en-Born, home of the great Lac de Biscarosse, a reservoir for missile testing, seaplane construction, and the country’s largest oil reserve, we meet the Vélodyssée again. Our lunch stop today is Mimizan, center of the rich natural forests, dunes and wetlands of the Landes and the routes of Santiago de Compostela. From Mimizan, we’ll ride lightly through the ponds and dunes before arriving in the surfing and sailing town of Capbreton, known for its long sandy beaches and historic Napoleonic jetty.
